Smart License & Update Manager (SLUM) is a woocommerce license plugin for WordPress shops that sell software. It generates a license key when an order is paid, stores the key in your database, and lets your plugin, desktop app, or command-line app validate it against your shop. Customers can see where the key is active, release a site or device, download the latest release, and renew under My Account. You keep the keys, customers, and data on your own server, with policies per product, limits, and update releases registered with download URLs.
Sell software with real license keys — from your own shop
SLUM adds everything a software vendor needs to WooCommerce: a key is generated the moment an order is paid, your plugin or app checks that key with your shop, and the customer sees exactly where the key is in use, moves it to another site when they rebuild, downloads the latest release and renews — all under My Account. You keep the keys, the customers and the data on your own server.
What you get
- License keys that are yours. Generated by SLUM, stored in your database, with a checksum that catches typos before they ever reach the server. No external service, no per-key fees.
- Policies per product. Website (domain-bound) or application (device-bound), validity in days or lifetime, maximum sites/devices per key, demo and pro plans, multi-packs, renewal products, block on refund — and every variation can have its own tier.
- Real activations. One row per site or device with last-seen and client version. Limits are enforced; customers release a site themselves.
- Updates through your shop. Register a release with a download URL (Nextcloud, S3, your server); every download validates the key first. Ed25519-signed manifests and offline tokens let apps work without a connection.
- Drop-in SDKs. A single PHP class for WordPress plugins (license screen, warnings, grace period, one-click updates) and a standard-library Python client for desktop apps. Any other language talks to the documented REST API.
- Tooling for the vendor. Searchable license list with bulk actions, add/batch/CSV import, activity log, weekly expiry digest, hooks for Slack alerts, feature flags and staged rollouts.
- Handbook included. Nine chapters and full API/hooks references, inside the plugin under Help.
Who it is for
Developers and studios selling their own WordPress plugins, themes, desktop tools or scripts through WooCommerce, who want licensing they control and understand — without renting a licensing platform.

Who uses this woocommerce license plugin
SLUM is aimed at software vendors who run a WooCommerce shop and want to sell plugins, desktop apps, or command-line tools with their own licensing. It is useful when you need different policies per product, such as demo and pro plans, multi-packs, renewal products, or different maximum sites and devices. It also suits shops that want to keep license data in their own WordPress database instead of using an external service. The free 7-day demo lets you test the setup before buying the one-time PRO licence.
What is included in the PRO licence
The PRO version is a one-time purchase per website and comes with a lifetime licence that includes updates. A free 7-day demo is available before purchase. If you already use License Manager for WooCommerce, SLUM offers a one-click import so existing keys can be brought into the new system. The plugin works with WordPress and WooCommerce, and you register release files with download URLs on your own server, Nextcloud, or S3. Keys are stored in your database, and customers manage their own activations, downloads, and renewals.
