Custom PostNL shipping for WooCommerce — the right parcel class, automatically
A WooCommerce plugin that packs the cart in 3D and picks the right PostNL parcel class — letterbox to large box, in the Netherlands and 38 more countries.
Problem
Dutch webshops that ship with PostNL guess parcel sizes: a flat rate over- or undercharges, and WooCommerce’s shipping classes cannot tell whether a cart fits through a letterbox.
Solution
A 3D-packing algorithm fits every item in the cart into PostNL’s formats and picks the class that fits — Brievenbus up to Groot in the Netherlands, Letterbox up to Standard abroad — with rates you can edit per country and class. No PostNL API connection needed; licensed through SLUM.
Result
Calculates the shipping on every order in the Matrix3D shop and is sold with a free 7-day demo. The admin screens are in Dutch.
The problem
Shipping costs in a Dutch webshop depend on the PostNL parcel class, and the class depends on the size of the whole order. A flat rate charges too much for a letterbox parcel and too little for a large box, and setting up a shipping zone per country takes hours.
How the packing works
The plugin packs the items in the cart in 3D — length, width, height and weight, also for several products in one order — and picks the PostNL class that fits: Brievenbus up to Groot in the Netherlands, Letterbox up to Standard abroad.
